This 250th book is a history book – with maps and chronologies, and typically a picture or two on each page. Read the text that explains the development of Newport from the time the first white man set foot here sometime around 1761, to the present day. Look at the photographs and read the captions. Enjoy the wide array of community contributions – from parts of published or unpublished memoirs, to Old Home Day speeches, to journal entries, to essays and letters – that present our town’s history through the lens of personal experience.

This book is not just dates and names. It is stories. It is people. It is the people of this community who make the community.
