Newport Historical Society Receives a Grant

Thanks to the support from the New Hampshire Charitable Foundation’s Roy M. Malool Family Foundation Fund, the Newport Historical Society in Newport, New Hampshire was able to replace the entry steps to the Nettleton House Museum that were in significant disrepair.

In October of 2025, the Newport Historical Society received a grant specifically to replace the entry steps and handicap ramp at the Nettleton House Museum.  The Newport Historical Society was awarded a grant for $10,000 to help pay for the replacement of the entry steps and ramp for the Museum by the Roy M. Malool Family Foundation Fund.

This grant enabled the NHS to cover most of the funding to reconstruct the access steps and ramp to the museum the next spring. The impact for this grant is significant.  Overhead maintenance of the structure requires capital expenditures that exceed the financial support of memberships and donations made to the museum. This type of grant funding provides generous support and enables the NHS to maintain this historic structure to welcome and serve the community.  In April of this year the demolition and reconstruction were completed utilizing local workmen and businesses supporting the community spirit of the grant.

The Newport Historical Society welcomes visitors to the Nettleton House Museum for gatherings, meetings and research.  It is a treasure-trove of information and a sanctuary filled with cherished memories about those who have made the community of Newport special.

The Newport Historical Society Museum is open Sundays, from 11AM to 2PM April through October.  Located in the 1837 Nettleton House at 20 Central Street in Newport, New Hampshire, the museum is handicapped accessible, air-conditioned, and offers free entry.
