Celebrating Newport’s Historical Heritage This Holiday Season

Thank you, friends and members of the Newport Historical Society, for your support over the years. Please consider the work that the NHS does to receive, catalogue, and share the story of Newport and its people. The story and the characters involved will never end—and perhaps you have known a few.

A New Year is ahead. Time marches on to the unknown “Future,” and time passed becomes our “History.” In this season of reflecting on “The Gift,” please spend a moment to recognize the efforts taken by our passionate volunteers as they give the gift of their time and energy to support our cultural heritage.

The story of the NHS continues to march on successfully as well. As a retrospective of where we have gone this past year on our website, we invite you to enjoy for the first time—or re‑enjoy—the first post on our website, initiated in January of 2025! The collection of Christmas cards of the past from the Dorothy Collins Collection should transport you to the feelings of Christmas from long ago.

This stunning set of antique Christmas postcards dates from 1906 to 1911. These German‑made, colored postcards were highly popular in the United States for their vibrant colors, intricate designs, and exquisite embossing techniques.

Merry Christmas & Happy Holidays!
