The Corbin Covered Bridge

Return to Events Calendar

The Corbin Covered Bridge.

The Corbin Covered Bridge, built in 1843, and named for the illustrious Corbin Family, was the sole survivor of Newport’s

six highway covered bridges. It stood guard over the Sugar River, on a road declared "scenic" by a 1972 Town vote,

for approximately 150 years. The Corbin Covered Bridge was destroyed by arson on May 25, 1993, and our community responded.

On Nov. 9, 1993, a Special Town Meeting was held to decide the fate of this bridge.

The Programs start at 6:30 unless noted otherwise and are held in the ballroom at the Richards Free Library - 58 N. Main St. Newport, NH.
